Domain Names: Easy to register and simple to setup
About Domain Names from Pulse Web Hosting
A domain is an address for your website, similar to your home postal address. It is what you give out so that people so can visit your website using an internet browser.
A domain is made up of three parts. In order to explain the different parts of a Domain we will use Pulse Web Hosting's domain as an example.
www.pulsewebhosting.com
The first part of a domain is the 'www.' which stands for 'world wide web' and is found on every domain on the internet and will automatically be part of the domain you receive with Pulse Web Hosting.
The second part of the domain is 'pulsewebhosting' and for your domain you can pick any memorable phrase that is relevant to your website.
The third part of the domain is the '.com'. For this part of your domain there are several different options you can choose from.
.co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .com, .net, .info, .org, .biz, .name
Some are more expensive than others; generally because of their popularity .com domains are the most expensive domains that can be purchased.
If brought with selected hosting packages Pulse Web Hosting offers .com or .co.uk domains for free.
Subject to availability you can pick anything you think is relevant for your website as the second two parts of your domain.
Domain Name Charges
Domain names are charged on a renewal basis. Our .com domains are charged annually and our .uk domains are charged every 2 years.
We do not charge for domain name maintenance as this can be done through the control panel which you have access to when you have an account with us.
If we make changes to our domain or renewal prices you can find these changes on our website.
We give you full access to administer your domain through the control panel https://admin.pulsewebhosting.com. Here you can manage the following:
- A Records
- MX Records
- Ownership/Contact Details
- Name servers
- CNAME Records
- SOA Records
- View the current settings
Nominet Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions for Domain Name Registration for Nominet can be found at http://www.nominet.org.uk/nominet-terms
Domain Name Availability
Just like copyrights, domains are owned and they are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. When you purchase, or receive as part of a hosting package, a domain you get the exclusive rights to that domain for a set period of time (generally 2 years for .uk domains and 1 year for others).
For example, you could not name your domain www.microsoft.com as that is already taken. That's why as an important part of the sign-up process you'll need to check the availability of both your chosen 2nd and 3rd part of the domain. For example if you were looking to have johnsmith as the 2nd part of your domain and .com as the 3rd part but www.johnsmith.com was already taken, you would have to see if www.johnsmith.co.uk or www.johnsmith.net were available instead.
